As many of you may know, not only am I a poet, but I’m a gay poet. With that comes many poems about many different girls, whether they are love poems or breakup poems. So here is Dear She, or a poem about all the women I’ve written poems about.
I tell myself I shouldn’t write this
Because that means I’m doomed.
If I write a poem about you,
It means I am head-over-heels.
This means you can- and will-
Break my heart.
And I let you,
Because there’s something about
Putting pieces back together
That makes me realize
Just how much you’re worth it.
While writing this, I realized that I am often told that too much of my poetry is about heartbreak. But if we’re being honest, I think every person experiences some heartbreak, let alone the teenage girl demographic. But I don’t think I wrote this as a pity sort of thing, but rather a healing sort of thing, like a letter to the people that I think I’ve affected in my life.
Also, if you are into this poem, I have my own poetry book published through Amazon! If you are able to, I would really appreciate people buying it, because I worked really hard on it, and think the poetry is worth reading.
