While many people have heard about this, many have not, and some who have, have been misinformed. So I am here to tell what I believe to be the truth, about the missing youth in Washington, DC.
Over the last few months, several young people went missing in the District. While some articles have been published saying 40 youth, while some say other numbers. From what I’ve read and heard by living in DC, the number is closer to 20. Most of these young people (if not all, please feel free to fact check) were young people of color.
Until relatively recently, many people didn't know about any of these cases, as they were not on the local news or in any sort of news outlet. The coverage of these cases were part of the problem, especially because it made the situation seem like no one cared, when in fact, many people just didn't know.
So what do we do? My only thought is to put more out into the media involving the missing persons cases, because it can help. And by doing that, hopefully media outlets will use it to not only solve these cases, but prevent future cases as well.
